REOPENING NEWS UPDATE

REOPENING NEWS UPDATE – 11-19-21 – KENNETT AREA SENIOR CENTER

We are thrilled to announce that our start date is Tuesday, 12-7-21.  The Center will initially be open for scheduled clubs and classes only on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  On “All Day Wednesdays”, the Wendel Room will be open for a full day of activities and time to spend with friends.  Scheduled clubs/classes will be held in either the Wendel Room or our new “Community Room” immediately to the left as you enter through the main entrance.

Until our kitchen renovation is completed we will not be able to serve a hot lunch.  Those who come on “all day Wednesdays” are invited to bring a bagged lunch. A refrigerator will be available to keep your food cool if needed.

Our Grab N Go lunch program will continue with pick up on Tuesdays from 11 am to 12:15 pm.  Sign up for lunch pick up is required Monday of the prior week (8 days ahead).  Call Lori Holcombe at 610-444-4819 or e-mail her at lholcombe@kennettseniorcenter.org to join the Grab N Go Lunch program.

Because our local COVID19 transmission remains “high”, we are following CDC recommendations for masking.  Other than when eating, all staff, visitors, & participants are required to wear a properly fitted mask while at the Center.

Within the next few days we will send a letter to participants (with a calendar and other important information), post the 3 day per week schedule on our web site, and send a note to our friends with e-mail access.

We have missed you and can’t wait to see you all in-person!

Announcement October 1, 2021 – KENNETT AREA SENIOR CENTER RE-OPENING

WHEN WILL WE RE-OPEN? – As you may know, KASC received a generous individual donation designated by the donor for facility rejuvenation.  We also received a grant from the Longwood Foundation to provide additional funds for the project.  These amazing supporters have allowed us to plan and initiate a major transformation of the Center, including bringing our kitchen up to all current code standards.

As the project progressed, we have faced a few challenges which caused delays.  The most recent was the unexpected need to replace our duct work in Shade Hall, our largest program space.  This need prevented other elements of the project from moving forward, however the duct work is now complete and our ceiling and lighting replacement is now moving forward.

Given these delays and a new estimated date of completion of all work of 12/31/21, we have reevaluated our re-opening plan.  Our Board has now approved a “soft” reopening plan.  This plan will allow us to conduct most programs in 2 spaces which will not be impacted by the ongoing construction work.  Until the project is complete, SilverSneakers exercise class will continue via Zoom and our in-person lunch program will begin after all work is complete.  Our Grab N Go contact free meal program will continue as it has been.

Details of the soft re-opening will be announced soon.  We hope to have a start date no later than November 1st and hopefully, a bit sooner.

Please stay tuned and as more information is available we will update our Facebook page and website.

original Update Friday, June 18, 2021

We are beyond thrilled!!!  After over a year of COVID-19 challenges, we were given the green light by PA Department of Aging and the Chester County Department of Aging Services to re-open for in-person programs.  Before we can re-open, there is much to be done, including hiring for some key positions and building a calendar of programs, activities & events.

In parallel, thanks to a generous individual donation from former Board Member, Julie Noolan and a grant from the Longwood Foundation, we will also be completing some major, much-needed improvements to our main program space.  We are certain that when you return, you will be pleased with the updated and welcoming space.

WHEN WILL WE RE-OPEN? – Our target date for re-opening is the first week of October.  Please stay tuned and as more information is available we will update our Facebook page and website.

We can’t wait to see you all in person again and as always if you have a need for information & assistance, please call 610-444-4819.  We are here to help

Vaccines are safe, effective, and a key strategy to protect you and the people around you from serious illness. The goal is for everyone to easily get vaccinated against COVID-19 as soon as large enough quantities are available. Vaccine availability will initially be limited and therefore must be distributed in a phased approach. Click here to read more
